The VXC-114iAU/D2 adds four RS-232 serial ports to a PCI-equipped PC, with each port backed by a 128-byte hardware FIFO and support for full-duplex communication at up to 115200 bps. It suits engineers who need several serial devices on one host without relying on the motherboard's own ports.
The COM port number can be fixed with the 8-bit DIP switch selector or left to the driver to assign automatically. Under Windows the driver provides up to 128 KB of software buffer per COM port, which helps with large file transfers. The 3.3 V/5 V PCI bus support and short card design make it adaptable to a range of host systems.
The 'i' variant isolates the data lines of each port with photocouplers rated at 2500 VDC and adds ±4 kV ESD protection. This helps break ground loops, limit common-mode voltages and protect the host and connected equipment from over-voltage and static discharge in harsh industrial environments.
