The PROFI-2542-SC extends a PROFIBUS DP segment over single-mode fibre, which suits runs where electrical noise, surges, lightning or corrosive atmospheres would make copper cabling unreliable. A pair of units links two PROFIBUS sections with a fibre span of up to 10 km, with data passing transparently in both directions.
On the PROFIBUS side the unit detects the transmission rate automatically, up to 12 Mbps, and supports up to 32 stations per segment. The bus side has 3000 VDC isolation, and the fibre side uses a 1310 nm wavelength with SC-type connectors. Status is shown by PWR, TxD and RxD LEDs, which helps with commissioning and fault finding.
Mounting and environment: the unit is designed for DIN-rail installation and is rated for an operating temperature of -25 ~ +75 °C, with a storage range of -30 ~ +85 °C and humidity of 5 ~ 95% RH, non-condensing.
