The GW-2232i CR is a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway that lets a Modbus TCP host communicate with serial Modbus RTU or ASCII devices over Ethernet, removing the cable length limits of legacy serial networks. It supports Modbus TCP/UDP and Modbus RTU/ASCII in both master and slave roles, with up to 32 TCP connections (masters) per serial port.
Beyond simple protocol conversion, the unit can be configured as a pair-connection, serial-bridge or serial-tunnel, routing data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus devices. Its read-cache stores previous requests and responses, so repeated requests to the same slave can be answered immediately, which reduces serial port loading and speeds up TCP responses. A built-in web server and UDP responder (UDP Search) support configuration and device discovery.
- Two 10/100 Ethernet ports allow daisy-chain wiring, with PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) or a 12 ~ 48 VDC terminal block as power source
