The I-2542-B extends a single serial port over single-mode fibre, carrying RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 traffic across distances of up to 15 km. Its WDM design sends and receives on separate wavelengths, so both directions share one fibre strand. It is supplied as the B half of a matched pair, so the I-2542-A is needed at the other end of the link.
Automatic RS-485 direction control removes the need to manage transmit enable signals in the host system. An ESD-protected data line and a fibre medium that is not affected by lightning strikes or EMI/RFI help keep the link reliable in electrically noisy plant. The unit accepts a 10 to 30 VDC supply, draws 2 W, and installs on a DIN rail in a plastic housing.
Operating range is -25 to +75 °C, with storage from -30 to +75 °C and 10 to 95% RH non-condensing. Baud rates from 1200 to 115200 bps are supported on the serial port.
