The I-7520 CR converts a standard RS-232 serial port into an isolated RS-485 output, so existing PC and industrial controller serial ports can drive RS-485 networks without changes to the hardware or software on the host. RS-485 is better suited to longer cable runs and multi-drop networking than RS-232.
Choosing the isolated side: the I-7520 CR isolates the RS-232 side with 3000 VDC, which protects the devices connected there. If the RS-485 side carries the more expensive equipment, the RS-485 isolated variant (I-7520R) is the better fit. The blue cover identifies this RS-232 isolated version; the gray-cover I-7520-G CR has the same specification.
The unit has an automatic RS-485 direction control function and ESD protection on the data lines, runs from a +10 VDC to +30 VDC supply and mounts on a DIN rail. It is rated for an operating temperature of -25 ~ +75 °C.
